Gel Plate Botanical Prints and Cards Workshop
Gel Plate Botanical Prints and Cards Workshop
Saturday 15 August 10:30-12:30
Join this creative and mindful two hour workshop with local artist and maker Bev Evans.
Choose foliage from the walled garden and use these leaves with a gel plate, roller and paints to create your own unique botanical prints and greetings cards.
Gel plate printing is a monoprinting technique that doesn’t require the use of a print press. Paint or ink is applied to the surface of a gel plate and then detail added through a texture or stencil pressed into the paint or by drawing in the paint with a tool. A sheet of paper/card is applied on top and smoothed down by hand or with a roller. When you lift the paper you have your print and each print is a ‘one-off’….hence the name monoprint.
Bev demonstrates each monoprint gel plate technique as you follow along. She will then show you how you can turn some of the prints you have made into five beautiful and unique greetings cards (aperture cards and envelopes also provided).
No previous art or printing skills required and everything you need will be provided.
This workshop is aimed at adults, but young people aged 14+ who are able to be left unaccompanied may participate.
The session will take place in our polytunnel, which can get hot on sunny days, and be cold on cooler days! We recommend wearing layers, so you’re prepared for all possible temperature options!
