Saturday 13 July 2pm Community

Aimed at local residents, community members, park users, and anyone who wants to know more about hempcrete.

Join Growing Sudley and our capital team for a series of talks about the traditional, natural building material that needs to re-take the world by storm, Hempcrete. In researching ways to make our building refurbishment as low carbon and chemical free as possible, we’ve used this natural material to clad the building and we’re on a mission to spread the word and encourage others to use it wherever they can.

Through these talks with our architects Harrison Stringfellow, you’ll find out more about the incredible story of Hempcrete, its use, and how it may avoid many of the environmental, logistic and economic downsides of concrete and other building materials. The cement industry is responsible for about 8% of planet-warming carbon dioxide emissions, alongside problems created by unyielding surfaces and low insulation, or R-value, properties. In addition, modern construction industries use a toxic cocktail of chemicals which are bad for the people building, living or working in them, as well as for the earth.

Hempcrete is not only almost carbon-negative, but there are no petrochemicals involved at all. By growing and building with Hempcrete we’re effectively removing CO2 from the atmosphere whilst providing natural, sustainable construction with a long history of effective use. See our building, hear about our journey and find out how, with the help of National Lottery Heritage Fund, we’ve trained local people in the use of Hempcrete and brought this construction skill into the Liverpool City Region.

Each talk should take about an hour, little longer if lots of Q&A. Not sure which of the 3 talks you should come to? Get in touch at growingsudley@gmail.com if any further queries or to discuss accessiblity arrangements.
