PAST EVENT: Theatre in the Rough: SKYGLOW 16-18 August 2024
Friday 16 - Sunday 18 August
7.30pm
The sky is dying. The constellations are in crisis. So: do we need more light in the dark? Or more dark for the light?
SKYGLOW illuminates the startling effects of light pollution on both nature and culture. It’s an invitation to witness the vanishing stars and confront humanity's cosmic impact on the universe.
As the boundary between earth and sky blurs, local writers weave tales that span from soil to stardust. Their words, created in collaboration with astronomers and ecologists, paint a vivid picture of the changing universe and our place within it.
Meet a fading celebrity. A lonely satellite. A grandmother who just might be a hedgehog. And discover a world where the sky is just another screen.
Experience a series of monologues – funny, serious, poetic, and just a bit punk – all set in the beautiful open air of Liverpool’s Sudley Walled Garden.
Rediscover the night with SKYGLOW.
Running time approximately 1hr 20mins.
SKYGLOW is a set of 10 short monologues commissioned by young writers. Responding broadly to the concept of skyglow, writers have worked with ecologists and astronomers to explore issues around light pollution and our changing skies. Suitable for all ages.
This is an outdoor event - we’ll be open to the elements as the stars are. Please dress accordingly with good footwear. A range of seating will be provided. If you have access requirements, please get in touch so we can help. There is a compost toilet in the garden. Instructions on how to find us will be emailed before you come.
SKYGLOW is made possible thanks to funding awarded by Postcode Neighbourhood Trust and raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery; The PH Holt Foundation; The Granada Foundation; The Sylvia Waddilove Foundation; and The Unity Theatre Trust.
